Peter G. Muller's Obituary
MULLER
Peter Gottfried , a member of the Greatest Generation, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010 at the age of 94. He was born on July 2, 1915 in New York City to Paula Rademacher and Michael Muller. Pete proudly served his country during World War II as a Technician Fifth Grade with the 852nd Engineer Aviation Battalion in the United States Army. He served in battles in central Europe, Normandy, northern France, and Germany. He was awarded the European, African, and Middle Eastern Service Medals as well as the Good Conduct Medal. He married Claire Schmidt in 1942, who predeceased him in 1950. He married Alice Overman in 1951. She predeceased him in 2002. Pete is survived by two sons: Peter and wife Claire of Carmel, New York and Richard and wife Rachel of Miami. He is also survived by three grandsons: Joe of New York City; Michael and wife Jennifer of Poughkeepsie, New York; and Matthew and fiancée Erin Carr of Tallahassee. Two great grandchildren, Julianna and Michael, also survive him. In addition, he is survived by one sister, Mary Rosner Dumont, New Jersey. Two sisters, Veronica and Paula, and one brother, John, predeceased him. Pete worked for Otis Elevator for several years. He retired with 30 years’ service from the United States Postal Office in 1973 but worked for another 10 years as the mail distribution supervisor for Southeast Banks. Pete was a founding and lifetime member of the German American Social Club of Miami. He performed for many years with the Original Auerhahn Schuhplattler Alpine dance group. He loved entertaining and bringing joy to others. Pete was also a member of several racing pigeon clubs in South Florida (most recently the SCHE Racing Pigeon Club). He was known throughout the United States and foreign countries as an expert and authority on racing pigeons. His pigeons won races in places as far away as Africa. Pete was a member of the Masonic order for many years. Pete, affectionately known to his family as Pop, was a true lover of life. He loved animals, especially dogs. He loved to dance, to party, to watch football and baseball, to fix things, to fish, to joke, to eat, and to travel. He was always ready for the next adventure. Now, 2 ½ weeks shy of his 95th birthday, he has begun the greatest adventure of all. Pop – we will always love you and miss your twinkling blue eyes and smile. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 18th at 6 pm at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Shelter Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 13858, Tallahassee, FL 32317 to support rescued abused and neglected animals.
