Nicolo Alaimo's Obituary
Nicolo Alaimo
September 11, 1957 - March 16, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Nicolo Alaimo, our devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, on March 16, 2026, at the age of 68, after a courageous bout with an aggressive type of cancer. Nicolo was a proud Italian, Venezuelan, and American whose charismatic demeanor and boundless altruism touched countless lives.
Born in Villa de Cura, Venezuela, to Sicilian immigrants, his parents were Simone and Maria Cocchiara Alaimo. They nicknamed him “Lino”. He was one of six siblings: he was predeceased by his parents and his oldest brother, Onofrio “Ino” Alaimo. His surviving siblings are brother, Rosario “Saro” Alaimo, sister, Giuseppina “Pina” Alaimo de Bianco, sister, Rosa Alaimo de D'Ambrogio, and brother, José “Pippo” Alaimo. Their father was a professional baker who partnered with other family members to establish a family-owned bakery in Villa de Cura, and Nicolo, along with his siblings, all learned the value of hard work and collaboration by working in the family business. That sense of entrepreneurship molded Nicolo into an accomplished businessman, but it was the reliance on and importance of family that he absorbed so fully that every life he touched became a part of that family.
An avid and proficient learner, at just 17 years of age Nicolo left Venezuela in 1974, on the international college governmental scholarship program called “La Fundación Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho”. He attended California State University Sacramento and earned his Bachelors degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. There, he met the love of his life, Julie, and they were married in 1981. The life they built together took them on many adventures and they traveled to many countries around the world.
In 2000, Nicolo earned his MBA and a Master of Science in Professional Management from the University of Miami (UM) School of Business. During his 34 years with Hewlett Packard, Nicolo worked in many different areas within the HP company, from Service, to Sales, to Marketing, to Latin America Sales to Global Sales Enablement, retiring in 2016. Following this tenure, he continued his studies at the University of St. Thomas in Miami Gardens, Florida, graduating in 2024 with a Ph.D., a Doctor of Philosophy in Ethical Leadership. His love of learning evolved into a love of inspiring the next generation, and Nicolo became a full-time professor at Florida International University in Miami (FIU), teaching sales and marketing at the College of Business. He was also a founding member of the FIU Global Program Sales Lab and the Sales Enablement Society. As a university professor, he took great pride in teaching, making personal connections with his students, and approached teaching not just as a profession but as a chance to guide, encourage, and inspire everyone around him.
Fluent in Sicilian, Italian, Spanish, English, and Portuguese, Nicolo had a remarkable ability to connect with people from every walk of life. His caring nature and welcoming disposition drew others to him immediately, and many who met him quickly came to feel they had made a lifelong friend. Many who crossed his path quickly grew to love him and carried his kindness with them long after.
He is survived by his wife Julie Alaimo, his son Gianni Alaimo and daughter-in-law Christine, two grandchildren Giada and Matias all of Miami Florida, his daughter Lydia Right and son-in-law Michael Right of San Jose, California, his four siblings Saro, Pina, Rosa and Pippo, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as extended family members in Argentina, Spain, Italy and the USA. To know him was to love him, and his memory will live on in the countless friendships he created and the love he shared so generously.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a tribute gift to continue the legacy of his work at the College of Business at Florida International University. Make your memorial donation by selecting “(COB) Sales Program Lab”, https://give.fiu.edu/give-now/college-of-business/
