One of the core memories I carry, one I know I share with many fellow students at FIU, is the mentorship, patience, and genuine care that Nicolo Alaimo gave so generously.

He was more than a teacher or educator; he was a foundational part of our growth as professionals and human beings. Alongside Professor Soltero and Professor Rauseo, they formed the dream team that shaped not only our academic journeys, but who we became as people. I'm so grateful!

What stood out most about Nicolo was his patience and humanity. He created a space where we were allowed to make mistakes without judgment, where we never felt inadequate, and where growth was always encouraged. He led with empathy, presence, and a quiet strength that made everyone feel seen and supported.

His belief in us often came at moments when we needed it most.

Rest in peace, Professor. Your impact is lasting, and your legacy will continue to live on through all of us whose lives you helped shape.

Mi memoria favorita de Nicolo fue un día súper tranquilo, sentados en su oficina, y yo llevé mi mate. Fuimos a la cocinita y empezó a contarme una historia súper chistosa.
Cuando él era Global VP en Venezuela, tuvieron una conferencia en el sur de Brasil. Empezaron la reunión todo normal, y de repente llegó un tipo con una bandeja de mate. El tipo empezó a tomar, y se lo iban llenando de agua para cada persona.
Como no sabía lo que era, pensó que era alguna droga. Cuando le llegó a él en la mesa, lo tomó y luego se lo pasó a la siguiente persona.
Al salir de la reunión, le preguntó a una colega qué era. “Mate”, le dijo. Y él: “¿Es una droga o qué es?”. Y ella: “Es un té…”. Yo me estaba muriendo de la risa.
Después le regalé una bolsa de yerba porque me encantó tanto la historia, y obvio, algunos alfajores.
Eran todas mis tardes del semestre de otoño de 2024: hablando con Alaimo y siempre escuchando historias de lo genio que era.
Difícil de decir adiós, pero súper fácil decir gracias al amor que compartiste con todos.

I am deeply saddened by Nicolo's passing. I had the great honor of working with Nicolo for more than 15 years. He was a wonderful manager, an inspiring teacher, and, above all, an exceptional human being. He taught me so many invaluable lessons in leadership, integrity, and kindness.

More recently, I had the opportunity to volunteer at FIU, where I witnessed firsthand his passion for teaching and his genuine care for each student.

He will be truly missed.

A true gentleman, we worked together at HP.
He inspired too many to count. In our last in person conversation in 2014 we spoke of how lucky we were to be born in 1957 and to have seen so many incredible innovations and changes in the the world in our life time and the value of family.

Prof. Alaimo, I’m so grateful to have had you as both a professor and a mentor. Your kindness and willingness to help everyone, without distinction, truly set you apart. You made every student feel seen, supported, and encouraged, and I will always be thankful for that. I always felt guided by you and Prof. Soltero, not just academically but personally as well. Nicolo was an inspiring professional and educator because he was a genuine human being. I met him at a stage in our lives where we had “been there and done that” and chose to spend the next chapter of our professional careers making a difference in the lives of students. Along with Rafael, we took the Sales Program to the next level. I will cherish those memories and lessons learned. You will be greatly missed and remembered dear friend.

Today, more than writing a message, I want to offer you a tribute.

When I was supposed to take your class in Cohort 25 in 2025, I was going through one of the most difficult moments anyone can experience, supporting my father through his battle with cancer. Shortly after, he passed away.

I returned to school three months later, but I was not the same. It wasn’t easy. There were many times when I wanted to give up, to stop, to not continue. I had lost motivation, strength, and clarity.

Then, life placed me in your classroom, during a presentation where you were there with your daughter. That moment touched me deeply. Seeing you both felt like a reflection of what I once had with my father… and what I had lost. It was a quiet moment, but incredibly powerful.

Later, we had a Zoom conversation at a time when I was struggling academically. Your words made a difference I will never forget. You didn’t just speak to me as a professor, you spoke to me as someone who truly believes in their students.

You told me not to give up.
To give my very best.
Not to compare myself to others.
That my limits are defined by me.
And that I was capable of much more than I believed.

From that moment on, something changed within me.

Now, as I am one month away from graduating, I can say with complete certainty that you have been one of the professors who has touched my heart the most throughout this master’s program. Not only because of what you taught in class, but because of what you inspired in me when I needed it the most.

This is not just a thank you.
It is a recognition of your impact, your humanity, and your ability to inspire.

Thank you for pushing me forward when I felt like stopping.
