Michael James Stasko's Obituary
Mike “Pirate” Stasko, an accomplished graphic artist, entrepreneur, and devoted father, passed away peacefully on March 21 at the age of 75.
Born in Miami, Florida, Mike built a life defined by creativity, independence, and determination. He founded multiple graphic arts businesses and was instrumental in helping bring modern color printing to Jamaica, where he lived for several years in the 1970s.
He found his greatest joy near the ocean. Growing up surfing and fishing, he was often happiest with a line in the water, a cold beer or a joint nearby, and music in the background. A great cook who loved sharing meals with others, he also had a remarkable talent for growing plants and nurturing life from the soil.
Friends and neighbors affectionately knew him as “Pirate,” a nickname that reflected his adventurous spirit and strong will. Beneath that toughness was a soft heart and a deep capacity for kindness and spirituality.
Mike is survived by his son, Michael, with whom he shared not only a name but a lifelong bond.
He will be remembered for his many creative talents, his warmth, and the unmistakable way he chose to live his life, “my way.”
