MAURICE A GRONDIN's Obituary
MIAMI - Maurice A. Grondin was born April 27, 1924, in Manchester, New Hampshire; and passed away June 6, 2015.
He moved to Miami in 1935. He graduated from Andrew Jackson Junior/Senior High School in 1942. Maurice then attended the University of Florida and enrolled in ROTC. He enlisted in the United States Army and served overseas in Rhineland as a surgical technician. He was honorably discharged with distinguished honors.
Upon his return to the United States, Maurice joined his father and brother and formed Grondin Construction Company. The company was later incorporated to become G.G.S. construction and then Biscay Holdings.
In 1947, Maurice married his only true love, Margaret Louise Hunt, who was called to the Lord in 1994. Maurice is survived by his six children: Wayne (Rosemary), Patricia (Garth), Kathryn (Ernie), Pamela (Michael), Gary (Rhonda), and Daniel. He was the proud grandfather of 20 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 29 great-grandchildren.
Maurice was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for 70 years! He was also active in the Alhambra Organization, the Serra Club for Vocations for the priesthood, the Holy Name Society and the Emerald Society. He was a member and active participant in Spirit Church (Lake Wales). He was instrumental in the establishment of the Camillus House in downtown Miami.
Maurice leaves behind a great legacy. He was a kind and caring person with an even greater heart for giving. His Christian values, faith and love for God were and still are an example to his family as well as to those with whom he came in contact. He was known for his ability to listen, analyze, and give welcomed advice. He was best known for not being critical of others and for accepting people as God made them with all of their imperfections. Up until December, 2014, he collected for the St. Vincent de Paul Charity outside of St. Kieran's church after Sunday Mass. In doing so, he taught adults and young children especially, that giving of self and serving God is why we are here on this earth. Maurice was blessed with an awareness that our time, talents or treasures are to be shared with our brothers and sisters in need. He was the perfect role model. May his example be a positive influence on the young and old; to serve God and one another as we are taught by the word of the Lord.
