We are so very saddened to hear of Matt’s passing. My husband and Matt met in high school and instantly became friends. We included him in all of our day to day activities and absolutely adored his family. Matt and I attended FIU together and studied almost every day. I would like to have a quarter for every time he took me to class in that camero that he loved so much. Matt was the best man at our wedding, bought us our first Christmas tree and NEVER hesitated to help with anything asked of him. He adored his sister and Melissa, his niece. We have sooo many memories and pictures of him. We enjoyed many car shows, camping trips, and lots of card games. My favorite memory is a display of Matt’s generosity. He had just accepted a computer position in Houston and moved into an apartment. He offered to pay for a flight for my youngest son and I to California to visit my best friend. He only asked that I connect through Houston to help him shop for new clothes for his new position. We shopped for hours, went to eat Chinese food afterwards and almost missed my flight to California. I’ve never ran so fast in my life….we were laughing so hard. Although we lost touch with Matt after he moved, Jimmy and I will always cherish the memories. Our prayers are with his family.
This news hit me like a ton of bricks. Matt was one the finest people I’ve known. He was a true friend with a big heart. When my wife and I were younger, we spent quite a bit of time with Matt. Matt and I started working at Compaq in the same group in 1989, just about a month apart, as I recall. We were all members of the car club at Compaq. Matt always loved his classic Camaro. We would make the trip to Baytown, TX to the drag strip every so often. I remember celebrating Matt’s 30th birthday in San Antonio, at a racing event of course! In the early 90’s, Compaq had a fall festival and some of us created a fairly elaborate haunted house for it. I can still see Matt dressed up as Lurch, the character from The Addams Family TV show. He was in charge of greeting the guests and keeping them in line. He loved saying, ‘You rang?!’, whenever he got the chance.
When my wife and I were flooded out of our home in 1994, Matt shared his home with us while we got back on our feet and got a place to live. Matt was our wedding photographer, too! We were delighted when Matt found Kerrie and glad to be able to attend their wedding. I remember Matt getting a kick out of our seven year old son, Ian, dancing with the bride at the reception.
