Mary Jane (Peek) de Aguero's Obituary
de Aguero, Mary Jane (Peek), 66, died at home peacefully after a courageous five year battle with
colon cancer. She was born in Atlanta, GA. Following graduation from Gulf High School in New Port Richey, FL, she attended the University of South Florida in Tampa, where she earned Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Elementary Education. She taught in public school in Melbourne, FL and Miami, and from 1970-2000, she was a kindergarten teacher at Sts. Peter and Paul School in Miami. To her students, she was a second mom (“Mrs. D”). With gentleness, sweetness, and a rewarding smile, she was firm but
understanding. She aspired to teach love and compassion as much as academics. She and her husband,
Richard, traveled extensively and saw the similarities rather than the differences in all people, at home
and abroad. Survived by her husband of 42 years, daughter Sarah (husband Francisco) Granados, two
marvelous grandsons Vincent and Justin, and sister Anne Peek Mathis of Clearwater, FL. She was ever
devoted to family, friends, and her faith. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in her
memory. Visitation will be held on Tuesday (today) 6-9 p.m. at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES, 4600 SW 8 St. Coral Gables, FL. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church,
Burial following at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
