I recently found an old box with kindergarten memories from 1972 at Sts. Peter & Paul School in Miami. I remember Mrs. De Aguero (Jane) so fondly to this day...50 years later! I decided to Google her name and found this tribute wall in her memory and thought I'd leave a note.
Here's one funny and memorable moment I had with her as a 5-year-old:
First day of school, 1971...the day had come to an end and no one had come to get me, so Mrs. D. asked me "How do you go home?". As a kid from a Cuban household, spanish was my first language, but I DID understand what she was asking me, so I answered "Wawa!"...which is spanish slang for "school bus". But in her limited spanish, she thought I was asking for "agua" and kept taking me to the classroom water fountain for a drink. She thought I was thirsty! Lol!! Finally, I remember a bilingual parent coming to the door and telling Mrs. D. "no, he means BUS...he goes home in a schoolbus". I remember hearing her laugh. She got me to the appropriate place and I assume I got home safely. I'll never forget that moment with her. Bless her beautiful soul.
Coincidentally, 10 years later, her husband, Mr. DeAguero was the Activities Director during my high school years at Miami Senior High and I had a few nice conversations with him as well.
