Margaret L Smith's Obituary
Margaret LeRoux Smith 77, of Miami, Florida, passed away on October 25th
from Alzheimer’s Disease.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Pierre and Margaret, brothers Paul
and Robert. She is survived by her sister Suzanne Hartigan, her daughter
Jeanne Marie, son-in-law Michael Rosenberg, her four grandchildren Kaylee,
Kobe, Carson, Ceaton, many nieces and nephews and her long-time partner
Paul Fuller. Margaret was born in 1944 in Miami, Florida where she lived her
entire life. She was the youngest of four and grew up in the Allapattah area of
Miami. She graduated from Miami Jackson High School in 1962 and went on to
work as a dental assistant. In 1968 she married Richard E. Smith and that
marriage produced her only child Jeanne Marie born in 1970. Richard and
Margaret divorced in 1973. Margaret continued working in the dental field and in
1980 went back to school to earn her degree in Dental Hygiene. She worked for
Dr. James Youngblood in Key Biscayne for many years and later worked for Dr.
Richard Sampson in South Miami. She was adored by her patients, and many
would return to Miami for their check-ups, even after relocating to other
cities/states. She had a gentle and kind chairside manner that was unmatched.
In 2006, Margaret found love again when she met and began dating Paul
Fuller. They would travel, share weekends at church and eventually share a
home. Margaret was blessed to have this extended family including Paul’s three
children Lisa, Dan and Donna along with Dan’s wife Gigi and grandchildren
Karen, Tyler and Hanna.
Having only one child herself, Margaret would often brag about how lucky she
was to have four grandchildren and was very active in their lives. She loved to
babysit, join them on family trips and welcome them on weekend visits to her
home. Her grandkids were a great source of joy and pride and they loved her
dearly.
Margaret retired from dental hygiene in 2015. She was diagnosed with
Alzheimer’s Disease in 2016 and worked diligently to fight the heartbreaking
effects it began to show. She resided her last year of life at The Palace Memory
Care center in Miami, Florida and joined our Lord peacefully. A mass for
Margaret will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church located at 14187
SW 72nd Street in Miami on November 14th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name
https://www.alz.org.
