Julia was a beautifual person, who accepted me with no question. I remember when I first called her "abuela," she said no, she wasn't. I then explained that since her daughter was marrying my dad, that made her grandmother - no "steps". She said okay and from then on, she was grandma to me. I would bring her flowers every few weeks and she'd fuss about me spending my money. I'd tell her that it wasn't much and besides, I thought it was worth the smile the flowers always put on her face. Looking back, I'm so glad that I took the time to bring those flowers and make her smile. She was a wonderful, sweet person, and I will miss her dearly!##imported-begin##Shere##imported-end##
Elena- this brought tears to my eyes, but a smile to my lips. What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful person. Thanks for sending the link.
My thoughts continue to be with you during this difficult time.##imported-begin##Dora##imported-end##
Elena...your mother was blessed with a beautiful and faithful family. As much as you miss her, know that she is in the Kingdom of God with those she loved who passed before her. What a reunion she is having without pain and suffering. You did all that you could and more...no regrets, just missing your mama. You have incredible strength...use it to get through this difficult journey and remember we all love you. xoxxoxox##imported-begin##Susan and Phil Vogelgesang##imported-end##
While not knowing Julia, I feel that knowing the kind of person that Elena is must be a reflection on her.##imported-begin##Fred Casiello##imported-end##
My dearest mami,
How I miss you. I walk through the door and expect to see you sitting in your chair ready to tell me if you won at Bingo.
I will always cherish the last 7 years that we spent living together. You have taught me to be brave and face life "head on" But most importantly, you have taught me to be gentle and caring and trust always in the Lord.
I will always love you and I will never forget.##imported-begin##Elena##imported-end##

My most wonderful memories of visiting the house on Parsons Blvd. were being able to laugh and talk to Aunt Julie. She was always so lively, accepting and hugable. She was indeed a peacemaker and full of God's love for our family. When the Villalba clan moved to Miami I used to bring our dad, Jose, down to visit often. He loved talking, talking, and talking with his sisters and Roberto. After his death, I still felt connected to the Villalba family through dear Aunt Julie.
We moved to GA so Bill and I missed frequent visits but we always stopped and visited when we were in FL and the highlight of our visit was the delicious meals she fixed for us. I still have my instructions for her pasteles and I love to share the Cuban culture and food with our children and our grandchildren. I love my piece of Aunt Julie's Cuban spunk and zest for life and I pray I can carry a bit of her with me. "A Dios"##imported-begin##Rose Villalba Dery##imported-end##
Dear Elena and family,
I best recollection of Julia is back in Ridgefield at New Years and the pork sandwich with pickles. I have never had it that way but the remembrance of your beautiful mother explaining the sandwich was delightful.
I am so sad for all of you at her passing as I know that she was very special especially to you Elena. I know you will have a lifetime of memories of just how wonderful of a mother she was to you.
My prayers will continue to your family that soon your sadness in her passing will soon turn to the joy of your memories of her.

My darling Aunt Julia,
How do I say "thank You" for all the wonderful things you did for me. You was my foster mother for 2 years when my Mom and Dad moved to Florida so that I could finish my last 2 years in high school in Long Island. You fed me , did my laundry and above all You with your husband, Manolo, gave me your love.
You along with your sister, made the best pasteles which as recently as 3 years ago I had the privalege to devour. At that time, I introduced you to my girlfriend, Trena, who both of you developed an instantaneous love for each other. You even told her that if ever she was in Florida again that there would always be room for her at your home. What a way to greet her.
You along with your brotheers and sisters continued the Villalba tradition of being givers and not takers.
I will miss you big time but you are now in heaven with the whole family and I know you guys had a wonderful reunion now that you are all together again like in the old days. I could go on so much more but I have to cut this short.
Vaya con dios mi corazon, give my Mom and Dad a big hug from me. I miss you all.
