Bible Study Teacher, Youth Group Leader, Fellow Teacher, Friend, and twice Brother-in-Law (he was both my husband’s brother and my sister’s husband), were only some of the names that Herbie held over the almost 50 years that I have known and loved him. I dearly miss him and the special roles that he held our family. Herbie was ‘among the best’ in all the roles he held and it would probably be impossible to find someone that didn’t agree that he was among the best of teachers, the best of brothers, the best of sons, the best of uncles, the best of friends, and from everything I witnessed, the best of husbands to my sister, Toni.
Herbie was a man that lived by what he preached. He was truly a great man of God. He showed kindness, true compassion, and love to all who knew him and more importantly, even to those who did not. From everything I witnessed over the past 50 years, he was a man of God, a true Christian, who lived by the words of the Biblical version of what Love Is! I saw Herbie close up and I always saw him live by what he preached.
Herbie was a brilliant man and had so many interests. His artistic talent was amazing! Whether he was pursuing sculpting, painting, drawing, jewelry making, pottery, or photography, he excelled. Not only did he excel, but he always lovingly wove his faith and love of God into his art. He shared the art he loved so much with his students, the church, his friends, and his family.
His interests were wide ranging, from fine chocolate to fine pieces of art, from playing a game of Bocci on a newly trimmed strip of lawn to watching a Miami Hurricane’s baseball game. He enriched the lives of all who knew him by his willingness to share the things he loved with family and friends.
I will always treasure the close relationship that he had with his families. He was a loving and incredibly involved Uncle, brother, brother-in-law, son, and husband to his family. Herbie was a great man, a genuine man of God that I feel privileged to have known. I will miss him dearly.
