F. Thomas Roebling's Obituary
ROEBLING, Frank Thomas (Tom), 84, passed away Saturday, March 13. He was the only son of Frank and Betty Roebling, born December 7, 1925 in Miami. Tom grew up near the banks of the Miami River in the then small town of Hialeah. He spent his teen years hunting, fishing and frogging in the everglades before it became a national park. On December 7, 1941 Tom turned 16 and upon graduation he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre. After the war he and his father started Buccaneer Construction, and built homes in Miami Springs. There he met and married his wife, Marilyn. They enjoyed 56 years of “bliss”. In 1968 Tom moved his family to a home on the ocean in Key Largo where he could enjoy the sunrises, feed the birds and fish and go fishing every day. For almost the last 42 years Tom lived his dream by the sea. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, children Suzy Roebling (Keith Kropf), Sally (Bryan) Gullett, Shirley Bernstein, Tom (Carey) Roebling and Patricia Roebling; grandchildren: Matthew, Buck, Adam, Nicholas, Tyler, Rachel, and Jared. He also leaves a sister, Priscilla Helmers, cousin Stewart Manville, nephews and many, many friends. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 18 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m service. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Park North. On Saturday, March 20 at 8:00 a.m a celebration of Tom's life will be held in Key Largo at Harry Harris Park.
