ELEANOR C. FLORIO's Obituary
Eleanor Florio was born July 1927, the first born child of David and Gussie Carlson. Eleanor and her sister Emily grew up in New Jersey. Over the years Eleanor has shared stories with her family and friends about that time in her life bringing us to tears and laughter as the stories progressed. The Carlson family moved to Miami with their mother and father in the 1940’s seeking warmer weather and rejoining with Scandinavian friends in the area. Eleanor was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice and “as she would say” strummed her way along with Emily’s assistance on her guitar. The sister’s sang in a cowboy band, and during World War II entertained the soldiers at the USO with their vocal/instrumental talents. Eleanor was a graduate from Miami Senior High “Class of 1945”. Following graduation Eleanor moved into a career with Western Union. Eleanor met Josef Florio, her husband of 23 years, at Matheson Hammock Beach. The family grew as Diane, John and Sandra were added to the family tree. Eleanor was always involved with supporting her family in their extracurricular interests becoming their largest fan club. She enjoyed driving to gather a car full of friends and then attending a New Direction or Harp concert. Eleanor remained active in the workforce as well as being a devoted wife and mother. She was always involved in a creative way with the Women’s Club, PTA projects, Choir rehearsal and church programs with a strong focus on the senior members of the congregation. Eleanor enjoyed driving to gather a car full of friends to fill their day with sunshine. The Early Bird Menu was created so that she would be able to “treat” them all to a special memory and add a highlight to their week. The word and action of “treat” runs strong in our family to this day for we saw it in action every day.
Eleanor was truly a servant of the Lord and a surrendered vessel a luminary allowing His Light to shine through her life. She understood the concept of giving and receiving and knew that she was truly blest, content in every circumstance.
Eleanor died October 27, 2013 surrounded by family and friends. She is now reunited with her husband Josef, together in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.
