Dear John, Sandra and Diane,
In perfect memory of your mother I would like to leave this tribute to her. I remember a lady whose unselfish giving heart was always present with those she met. No one was a stranger to her, she loving accepted everyone for who they were and genuinely cared. The most vivid memories are her gifts of Godly service she would render when you came in contact with her. She truly gave from her heart, a rare true act these days. Her goodness was authentic and modeled by her good acts. As I sat in her memorial service, all I could think of was, where does this goodness come from(?), is it my own(?), or could it be from the one true source of goodness every living, thinking, feeling and willing creature is born from. Some might say, I'm a simple moralist, I don't need God to be good - That, we can affirm. However, where does goodness come from(?), if not from the only source which its ideal is derived. All goodness is from God and one thing Eleanor knew well was that, God is Good! He was her source and she added His Holy Goodness to the innate source of her own goodness which we are all born with. This union made her Goodness complete and authentic, not sparing nor with self interests, but truly genuine. The other thought I had while sitting at her memorial service was, If we could demonstrate half the goodness your mom did for people, we would be better human beings for it and perhaps all memorial services would have the same beauty. She truly was a gift to this earth from our Heavenly Father who only begets Goodness.
In memory and because of Eleanor Florio I can thank God for His Goodness.
