Obituary for Eladio Roman Bas Trespalacios
Eladio Roman Bas of West Miami, FL, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 5th, at Kendall Regional Medical Center under the care of Catholic Hospice Services. He was born in Havana, Cuba on June 19, 1934 to the late Eladio Roman Bas Torriente and Dulce Maria Trespalacios’ He was a graduate of the Cuban Naval Academy and served aboard various commissioned naval vessels under the Batista government. Eladio fought for a democratic Cuba as a member of the 2506 Brigade assigned to perform Marine Covert Operations aboard the ship named La Tejana. He was recruited by the United States Central Intelligence Agency and helped infiltrate freedom fighters as well as weapons and ammunition, in order to aid the members at the Bay of Pigs invasion. His family regrets the fact that he did not live to see a free democratic Cuba. He and most of the members of his family were exiled in Miami, FL where he lived out the remainder of his life. Once he settled in Miami, He worked various jobs in order to support his family which consisted of his wife Graciela Bas and two children Eladio Roman Bas Jr. and Annette Maria Bas. He was hired as a machinist by Eastern Airlines where he worked for a period of 21 years. He was later hired by the Miami Dade County Aviation Department and retired after 10 years of service. Upon his retirement, he remained active with the 2506 Brigade, played Fantasy Baseball and stayed in touch with his relatives and friends on his Facebook page. He never missed a single game of his beloved Miami Marlins and lived to see them win two World Series Championships. He is survived by his wife Graciela, his daughter Annette, his son Roman, daughter in law Conchita and grandchildren, Luzia, Amanda and Bridgette. He will always be remembered by his big heart, amazing sense of humor and love for all those who knew him. He was warm and generous and would always lend a helping hand to others even into his later years. He always enjoyed sharing a Cafecito with his family and friends, not due to his love for coffee but his love for the people he shared it with.
