Edward Herbert Ford's Obituary
Herb Ford was born in Baltimore, MD, on June 27, 1940. Mother, Ruth Margaret Ford, and father, Herbert Wilson Ford, moved to Key West when Herb was 12 years old.
Herb received his bachelor's degree from Florida Southern College in 1962 and taught mathematics at Key West Senior High until 1966. Herb married Sally Lieux at First Methodist Church of South Miami, where they met in 1965 in the choir.
Herb received his Master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Miami in 1969. He taught math and was the department chairman for part of his 25 years of teaching at Southwest Senior High. During that time, Herb had two sons, Douglas Edward (Jerlin) and Bruce Elliot (Melisa) Ford. After Southwest, Mast Academy was opened on Virginia Key. That was the school where he spent his last ten years of teaching, and he also coached “crew” (which he also rowed at Florida Southern).
Throughout many years, he sang in the Community Chorus at the Kendall Campus of Miami-Dade, as well as conducted the church choir at Perrine-Peters UMC. Herb was always an avid HO model train enthusiast, building his own train room one summer and filling it with an awesome model train layout. He was a member of the Echoes Train Club at the Gold Coast Railroad. Sailing, swimming, writing computer programs, and spending time with his five beautiful grandchildren: Ethan (Kara), Arabella, Penelope, Maeve, and Ewan Ford were important to him.
He will be missed by so many. A true gentleman and a good Christian. We love you, Herb, and so very glad you are now in the arms of Jesus Christ.
A celebration of life will be held at Cornerstone Church on Saturday, July 18th at 3pm. A "pot-luck" meal will be offered following the service in the Fellowship Center.
This type of meal was Herb's favorite, giving our family wonderful new recipes. Appreciation of donations, in place of flowers, may be made to the church to benefit a replacement pianist.
