Betty Ann Good's Obituary
Good, Betty Ann: Died Tuesday, October 3 in Tallahassee, FL. A fourth-generation Miamian, she was a civic activist at local, state, and national levels, receiving the prestigious Point of Light volunteer award in 1996 from President Bill Clinton for her work in reforming adult and juvenile justice in Dade County, chairing the Miami Crime Commission, co-founding Citizens’ Crime Watch of Dade County, and creating Youth Crime Watch, which became a national and international program involving tens of thousands of young people in preventing crime in schools and neighborhoods. She was married to the late Morton Good, a Miami attorney, until his death. She authored The Crime Watchers, the story of her work and that of other volunteers in making her community safer. In addition to her community involvement, she was a deeply religious person, attending Christian Science services regularly. She is survived by daughter Elizabeth Cockrell and her husband Guy of Tallahassee, daughter Jennifer Tiefert husband Brian of Leesburg, GA, and her son, Carson Good and wife Erin of Orlando, as well as by 11 grandchildren: Ben, Christine, and Nick Cockrell; and Jake, Halley, Abi, Catherine, and Becca Tiefert; and John, Michael, and Lexi Good;. Service will be held at Plymouth Congregational Church, Coconut Grove, FL, on Saturday, October 6, at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements by Van Orsdel Funeral Home, which provides a condolences book on line at www.vanorsdel.com.
