Barbara Russell Riedy's Obituary
Barbara Russell Riedy, 89, of Miami, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on June 30, 2022. She was born in Miami, Florida on June 10, 1933.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Thomas Leo Riedy, sister Dorothy North, and grandson Thomas Alan Riedy. Tom and Barbara were married on May 29, 1952 and raised three sons.
She earned her bachelors and masters degrees in education which led her to become a special education teacher with the Miami-Dade County Public School System. She taught for over 40 years. It was truly her passion. She was a world traveler, avid fan of the Miami Dolphins, and spent 45 years selflessly serving the homeless community in downtown Miami. She will be remembered for her love of Jesus, her generosity, and the care she gave to all she met. She is survived by her three sons Guy, Russell (Beverly), and Andy (Sharon), her grandchildren, JoEllen (Nick), Kyle, Kelly (Dion), and Reannan (Scott), and her great grandchildren Kaylee, Aiden, and Emma.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, July 8th, from 4-9pm, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 6:30pm. Events will take place at Van Orsdel Kendall Chapel (11220 N Kendall Drive).
A private burial will take place on Saturday, July 9th at 10:30 am at Miami City Cemetery (1800 Northeast 2nd Avenue).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Miami Rescue Mission in Barbara’s name.
