Yvonne Estefan Achkar's Obituary
ACHKAR
Yvonne Estefan Achkar (1953-2012) Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 4th, 2012 after a 4-year battle with Leukemia. Born in Bogota, Colombia she graduated in Psychology from the Universidad Javeriana and obtained her Masters with high honors from the University of Miami. She served on the Board of Directors of Hoteles Royal and was involved in real estate.
She is survived by her husband Nabil J. Achkar, her son Doctor Carlos C. Gomez, his wife Holly, and their children Mary Elizabeth, Katherine Gianna, Carlos Joseph and Jon Anthony. She is also survived by her sister Stella Estefan Chacon and her children Stephanie, Camila, and Victor and by the children of her late brother, Camilo Estefan: Denise, Carolina, Nicholas, and Michelle as well as family in the US, Colombia and Lebanon.
A vigil will be held on Wednesday, November 7th from 6 to 9 pm at Our Lady of Lebanon Church (2055 Coral Way). A Mass for the repose of her soul will be celebrated on Thursday, November 8th at 11 am at Our Lady of Lebanon followed by burial at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
