WILLIAM THOMAS MCCULLOUGH III
MCCULLOUGH, WILLIAM THOMAS III, passed away on September 20, 2011 in Coral Gables, Fl. He was born in 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was an ardent Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a great supporter of the University of Miami Canes. Bill graduated from Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh, PA in 1949 and received his BA degree in economics in 1953 from Allegheny College where he was a member of the SAE Fraternity. After college Bill was in the United States Naval Reserve from August 1953 to August 1955. He served in California, had duty in the Far East including evacuation of refugees from North Vietnam to South Viet- nam. His ship was the USS Mont- rail. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant JG. He was with a family company McCullough Electric Company until January 1958 at which time he was employed as a bank trainee at the First National Bank of Miami. Bill was with the Bank for over 20 years and became Senior Vice President and Investment Officer of Southeast Bank. He then joined the brokerage firm of Paine Weber in Coral Gables as an Investment Executive. From November 1989 to June 2008 he was an Account Executive with Young /Stovall and Company in Miami. He served on the Board of Directors of WPBT Channel 2, recording for the blind, and the former Country Club of Coral Gables and was a member of The University Club. He especially enjoyed playing tennis at the Country Club with his buddies who are still among his circle of friends. He is currently a member of Coral Reef Yacht Club and the Beach Colony Club. Bill is survived by his wife Martie. They would have celebrated their 57th anni- versary this coming December. He was the proud father of two child- ren Stephen Douglas of Ft. Lauder- dale and Connie (married to Rick Riddle) and a granddaughter Hope Alexandria who live in Tampa, FL. He is also survived by 3 nephews and 1 niece. Bill fascinated Hope with his drawings of dogs. He had a compassionate love of his pet dachshunds from childhood. In retirement, Bill had a continued interest in the bond and stock market as he and friends would consult daily on the fluctuations of the economics of the times. And he and Martie had wonderful adventures on cruises. For exercise and enjoyment, he often rode his daughter's childhood yellow bike around the neighborhood, gather- ing the latest news and events. Visitation will be held at the Van Orsdel Funeral Home at 4600 SW 8th Street from 4:00 to 5:00pm with a Memorial Service at 5:00pm in the chapel on Tuesday, September 27. Bill passed away surrounded by his wife, Martie, and two children, Steve and Connie. Bill's ashes will be resting at the South Florida Veterans National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
