STRAIGHT M.D.
William M. passed away at his home in South Miami on September 1, 2009. Dr. Straight was a prominent cardiologist and internist for over 40 years in Miami, FL, as well as a published historian of Florida history. He was 90 years old. He was born in Philadelphia, PA to Jacob F. and Ethel Straight of Fairmont, WV, and moved to Miami in 1924. He distinguished himself early by becoming an Eagle Scout, graduating with honors from the University of Florida, receiving his medical degree from The John Hopkins University Medical School, and serving a tour in the U.S. Navy Medical Corp during WWII. In 1992, Dr. Straight was honored as a Laureate of the American College of Physicians by the Florida Chapter. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Harris and his son-in-law, William D. Harris of Fairfax, VA; his daughter, Sara Jane Koperski of Jacksonville, FL; his grandsons, Captain William D. Harris, Jr., U.S. Army, and Jonathan L. Harris; and his sister-in-law, Mary Frances Straight. A Memorial Service will be held one week from this Monday at 7:oo pm on September 14th at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES CHAPEL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, 101 West Flagler Street, Miami, FL 33130.
