WILLIAM FEDERICK WIDMAYER's Obituary
William Frederick Widmayer, 85, a native of Staten Island, passed away May 6th in his home in Miramar, FL.
Born in West Brighton, he graduated from Sacred Heart Elementary School, St Peter’s High School, and St John’s University. He married Eleanor Savadel in 1955 and lived in West Brighton. An active member of Sacred Heart Parish, he dressed as the famous Spartan for many parades. The couple moved to Miami in 1971 and was a member of St Kevin’s Parish for many years.
Bill worked for Eastern Airlines for 32 years. After his Eastern retirement, he worked for Carnival Cruise Lines for many years. Bill loved to take trips to the Pocono Mountains and to visit old friends and family from the Island. An avid golfer and fisherman, he was known for his saying, “just one more cast.” In his final years, Bill was comforted by his companion and caregiver Thelma Holland.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Eleanor, and his brother, Frederick. He is survived by two sons, William L. and Joseph P., grandchildren, Joseph T., Steven, Beth, and Paul; and great grandchildren, Conner, and Mason.
The wake will be Tuesday, May 10th, 4-8 PM at the Van Orsdel Family Funeral Chapel, 11240 N. Kendall Dr, Miami, with a Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Kevin’s Catholic Church, Miami. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park.
