William Darius Bishop Jr's Obituary
William Darius Bishop, Jr., 90, of Miami, Florida, died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, following a long battle with kidney disease.
Bill was born in Barcelona, Spain on February 26, 1934 to Consuelo Avila and William Darius Bishop, Sr. Bill graduated from Miami Technical High School in June 1952 and shortly thereafter married Ethel Morenberg on October 17, 1952.
Bill had a long career with the Florida Department of Transportation, immediately after graduating school. While working for FDOT, he earned a certification in Engineering. During his 45 years he received many awards and recognition for outstanding service.
Bill was a black belt in karate, an avid fisherman and competitive radio-control airplane pilot. He was always willing to mentor, guide and teach in all the things he was passionate about. Bill and his wife, Ethel, were also very well known for their annual luau and gatherings with friends and family.
Bill will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, provider and patriarch to his entire family. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 71 years, Ethel; his daughter Susan L. Bishop (husband, Kapua Gantz – Miami, FL), son William D. Bishop, III (wife, Yvette – Orlando, FL), daughter Lisa C. Wilson (husband, Bryan, Plantation, FL), son Kenneth A. Bishop (Orlando, FL), and son-in-law Julian Guerra (wife, Annie – Homestead, FL); 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Van Orsdel Funeral and Cremation Services, 11220 N. Kendall Drive, Miami, FL 33176 on Saturday, June 15, 2024. Visitation will take place from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, and service will follow beginning at 3:00pm. The service will be available via Facebook live for anyone who wishes to attend virtually.
