My condolences to his family and friends. Uncle Art was a great example of being active as one ages. He took a trip to Beaumont in his RV in the 2004-2007 timeframe. He must of been in his mid-80s. It was great to meet him. Uncle Art and his little dog slept in the RV. He loved that little dog. I enjoyed his stories about working on the high seas and going into ports. And he shared stories about my father as a boy. I feel fortunate to have met him.
Uncle Art was a sweet, kind man. My favorite memory of him was when he visited my family when I was a child. He was a ship captain and he came into Port Arthur, TX, from time to time. Sometimes he would bring fresh lobsters, which had to be the most exotic thing I'd ever seen. And he would always bring me balloons. In more recent years, he would visit me and my husband, and would regale us the the same jokes every visit. ;-) And he always sent us fruitcakes from the Collin Street Bakery at Christmas, even after we moved to Germany. We'll miss him!
