WALTER H. VENABLE's Obituary
VENABLE, Walter H., 92, passed away peacefully on 9/4/2015. Born in Augusta Georgia in 1922. Resident of Miami for almost 70 years. Graduated from the Georgia Military Academy. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He fought in the Pacific and in Europe. He worked for American Sightseeing Tours as a Tour Director for 39 years. He joined Biscayne Bay Lodge # 124 , Scottish Rite Valley of Miami and Mahi Shrine Temple in 1958. After years of devotion to the Valley he was invested with the rank of Knight Commander Court of Honor in 1995 and Coronated a 33 degree in 2005. He was also a member of the OES South Miami. Walter was known for his Golden Voice speaking at many organizations about US and Florida History. He was a member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Survived by the love of his life, Mary, for 62 years. His daughter, Katina (Quintin) Kneen, five grandchildren, Rena (Chris), Quintin (Vicki), Malcolm (Kim), Tammy (Sean), Vicky (Mark) and 11 great-grandchildren. Nephews; Nick (Nancy), Steve (Dorane), Chris, and Jimmy T. Poulos. Predeceased by nephew James J. Poulos (surviving wife Ana). Eight great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Sophia Cathedral Building Fund or the charity of their choice. A visitation will be held on Wed, 9/9/15, 5 pm – 8 pm with a Trisagion at 7:30 pm at Van Orsdel Coral Gables Chapel, 4600 SW 8 Street. A service will be held on Thursday, 9/10/15 at 11 am at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2401 SW 3 Ave., Miami. FL. Interment to follow immediately at Woodlawn Park Cemetery.
