Walter Lee Brown's Obituary
Walter Lee (Wil) Brown, life long resident of Miami, Florida passed away July 7, 2024.
He was the son of Joanne and Les (Leslie) Brown. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jenny Brown; sister, Leslie Ann (Jim) McKinney, nephew, Andrew (Jenn) McKinney; their children Adalyn, Sloan and Ellery; nephew Kevin Rusk, his children Jack and Tyler. He was pre- deceased by his niece, Jamie Rusk who was a shining light to him and the entire family. His sister in law, Josie (B.J.) Tebault whose love was always abundant; brother and sister in law, Bob and Diana Broadwater; niece, Amy Capp; He was also pre-deceased by his nephew, Richard Capp; his nephew David Griffith; nephew Rob Broadwater (Lynda) and their son, Dylan. And his loving aunt, Ann Marie Meyer, her husband, Victor and their daughters, Melinda and Ellen.
Friends of Wil and Jenny will be quick to recall their antics over the years. He will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, his generosity to family, and friends alike and his love of animals. He was quite famous for imaginative Halloween costumes which reflected his sense of humor and could also strike "great fear" at times.
Wil loved to cook. In fact, he was also famous for his fried turkeys on Thanksgiving Day. At times there was a line of people awaiting their turn to "FRY". In addition, he created a tradition whereby all attendees would have to guess the "secret" ingredient in the stuffing: one time it was a grape popsicle! He was also quick to share a new cake or cookie recipe with his loved ones.
Wil retired from Wells Fargo in 2011 as a Southern Regional Manager after 35 years of service. He started at The Bank of Miami, gradually working his way up. As the banking industry grew, Wil grew along with it, climbing the financial ladder. He survived four acquisitions which is most likely a record in the banking world.
Wil and Jenny loved to travel. Over the years, they skied the Olympic slopes of Sarajevo, the slopes of Lake Tahoe, climbed the glaciers of Alaska and reveled in the beauty of Yellowstone, San Francisco, New York City and Lake Louise to name a few.
He will be sorely missed by all. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in honor of Jamie McKinney Rusk.
Service will be held at Christ Journey Church, 624 Anastasia Avenue, Coral Gables, Florida at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
