WALTER ANTHONY BARCLAY's Obituary
Barclay, Walter Anthony, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on April 29, 2017, at age 100 in Miami, Florida.
He was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and attended St. Catherine’s Military School. He received his CPA degree from Loyola University in California. He was married to Beatrice Ann Barclay (nee Mettlach) who proceeded him in death.
Walter was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Army in the Pacific Theater, and returned to California after the war to work at National Life Insurance Co. In 1955, he moved his family from Hawthorne, California, to Nashville, Tennessee, where he worked for National Life where he headed the tax department until he retired.
He is survived by four daughters, Dorothy Gilstrap, of Palmyra, Virginia; Patricia Coyle of Oak Forest, Illinois; Sharon Cetta of Miami; Mary Baxter of Burlington, New Jersey; one son, David Barclay of Madison, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on May 2nd at Van Orsdel Funeral Home at Kendall Drive. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
