Virginia Gato's Obituary
Virginia Lucille Hansen Gato passed into the arms of Our Heavenly Father on Wednesday January 11, 2023 after 98 years of life. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom Gato and her parents George and Lucille Hansen of Boston, MA. Virginia was a proud Navy veteran who served as a WAVE during World War II. After the war she married Tom and moved to Miami, FL. She lived in Miami for 78 years where she raised 3 children and worked as a substitute teacher, a junior high guidance secretary, hospital secretary, and hospital volunteer.
Virginia is survived by her two brothers, George Hansen (wife Ellie) and Norman Hansen (wife Liz), a son David (wife Mickey), daughter Lucy (husband Rick Garrison) and daughter Audrey. Grandchildren Jennifer Harris, Brian Gato, Tina Garrison, Joseph Fernandez, and Lauren Fernandez and 5 great-grandchildren.
We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the The Palace, all of whom took excellent care of Virginia during the last 6 years. Also, we are very grateful to the nurses and doctors at Baptist Hospital who made her comfortable during her final days.
Virginia’s funeral arrangements are being handled by Van Orsdel on Kendall Drive. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 17th at 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM ending with a short service to remember her. It will be followed by a graveside service at 2:00 PM.
