Victor V. Meyer's Obituary
Meyer, Victor V. 88 Beloved father, husband, grandfather and friend. Born in Brooklyn, NY he was raised in Patchogue, NY (Long Island) and employed by Pan American World Airways for 41 years starting as a mechanic on flying boats on Trans Atlantic service. After a 10 month posting to a remote African base, he returned to New York and was hired as a flight mechanic on the famous Pan Am Clippers flying to Europe, Africa and South America. Married to Marion Lonegan in 1943 He served as a flight engineer during WWII with the US Air Transport Command flying C-54 aircraft on military routes to Africa, Asia and Europe and was honorably discharged in 1945 to continue his career with Pan Am. He flew Pan Am’s DC-4, DC-6, Lockheed Constellations, until he transferred to Miami in 1957. He upgraded to Douglas DC-8s and Boeing 707s and completed his career on Boeing 747s retiring in 1981 with over 33,000 hours and thousands of safe crossings of the Atlantic Ocean. A member of the American Legion Post 31, S. Miami Coral Gables Elks Lodge 1678, Pan Am – National Retiree’s Assn. , Pan Am Clipper Pioneers and maintained his late wife’s membership in the Starlighters. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years and is survived by daughter, Linda M. Meyer, Son Victor A. Meyer (Ann Marie) and granddaughters, Melinda and Ellen. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 7, 2009 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Woodlawn Park South Cemetery – 11655 SW 117 Avenue, Miami, Florida.
