He was born in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India, on June 8, 1944. He graduated top of his class with a gold medal from University in India with a master's degree in Agriculture. He shared many happy memories of finding rest under the trees outside the Taj Mahal. On May 21, 1975, he married the love of his life, Vijaya, and enjoyed a beautiful life full of adventures together for nearly 51 years. They raised two sons, Uday and Sandeep.
He built a successful career in agriculture in India. In the late 1980’s, Umasankar decided he wanted to provide better opportunities for his family and made the sacrifice to move the family to the United States to further promote his career to new heights. The family lived in Pennsylvania initially, and in 1990, they moved to Miami, where he opened his own business in imports and exports. Later, he expanded his career into computer science, from which he retired.
Upon his retirement, in the early 2000’s, Umasankar and Vijaya enjoyed traveling extensively around the world, especially on his favorite mode of travel, which was cruising. They enjoyed trips to Europe, Italy, Greece, Spain, Antarctica, Iceland, the British Isles, two Atlantic crossings, and two trips through the Panama Canal, just to name a few. Umasankar was very active in his Indian Community in Miami. Most of all, Umasankar’s greatest joy was his 4 grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
