Thomas Whitmore Stewart's Obituary
Thomas Whitmore Stewart, died unexpectedly on January 6, 2023. He was 77 years old. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death. Tom was born in Miami, FL on May 1, 1945.
Tom is survived and missed by his loving wife Jean of 52 years; and his children, Michael & John. Forever cherished and remembered by his four grandchildren, Julissa, Victoria, Kaylee & Austin. His sister Pearl Lawrence, Macon, GA and her children, Suzanne, Nanci & Kim. As well as the Burpeau, Swift, Barochin and Sukran familes, among many others.
His father Maurice Stewart born in Ontario, CN and mother Hazel Pinder born in Key West, FL moved to Miami in 1912. Maurice served his country in the U.S. Army.
Tom dropped out of Miami Senior High School to join the U.S. Marines. After boot camp in Paris Island, SC and Amphibian Tractor training at Camp Lejune base in NC he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a proud marine and represented their value of Semper Fi, always faithful.
He passed the GED exam and became an electrician by trade, part of the I.B.E.W. local #349 then worked on many construction projects until his retirement from Assurant, Inc. He most enjoyed spending time with family, friends, traveling and always helping others.
Services will be held Saturday 1/14/23, 12 PM at Kendall United Methodist Church and burial, 2 PM at Woodlawn North Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the American Heart Association.
