Thomas C. Howell's Obituary
Thomas C Howell (September 26, 1946- February 23, 2022)
Tom Howell- passionate aviator, beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend boarded his final flight to heaven, where he was lovingly welcomed by his mother Grace Moore Howell and father Dr R Spencer Howell of Miami, brother Wiley M Howell of Atlanta, and in laws Bill and Mary Patterson of Homestead.
Tom was a proud native Floridian, born in Miami and a graduate of Coral Gables High School. He graduated from University of Georgia (Go you hairy dogs!) and got his MBA at FIU. He served as a Lieutenant in the Army, US 1st Armored Division in Germany before returning to Miami to raise a family and settle into a career in banking and sales.
His love of flying began as a child and he couldn’t wait to turn 16 to get his pilot’s license. He flew through out college, but sadly his eyesight kept him from flying planes for the Army. He was a member of the Altman Flying Club for over 30 years and could be found every Saturday morning at Tamiami Airport ready to join his friends for a flight out for breakfast. Unless it was to Ft Lauderdale Airport, which he said was like kissing your sister.
He will be deeply mourned by his children Thomas Coley Howell Jr of Abington, PA; his daughter Quincy Bruckerhoff, son in law Jeff, and grandchildren Everett Thomas and Evelyn Mary of West Palm Beach; his sister Susan Horner of Marietta, GA, and his brother Dr. R Spencer Howell, Jr of Miami, FL as well as myriad nieces and nephews, who all relied on him at one time or another and who lovingly referred to him as Tio Tommy. He will also be missed by his Georgia/ North Carolina cousins, his ex wife (yes, really) Isabel Patterson Ditzel of Copper Hill, VA and his “ex brother in law” (read extra brother) Urban JW Patterson of Islamorada, FL.
Please join us to celebrate his life at St Thomas Episcopal Church (5692 North Kendall Drive Coral Gables, Florida 33156 on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10 am. If you are unable to attend in person, but would like to the service, you can do so at https://youtu.be/7ZZom36618k.
