THOMAS BRYAN GUYTON, M.D.'s Obituary
Thomas Bryan Guyton, M.D., 89, October 23, 1926 – June 23, 2016. Tom Guyton passed away peacefully at his home on June 23, 2016 in Coral Gables, Florida. A fifth generation Floridian, he was born in Miami, Florida to John Avery and Alice Coffee Guyton. He grew up in Miami Shores and is the last of five siblings. He attended Cushman School, Miami, Florida; Woodberry Forest School, Virginia; Harvard University, Boston, Massachusetts; and Tulane Medical School, New Orleans, Louisiana. He served in the Navy in WWII and then as a flight surgeon in the Air Force during the Korean War. Many will remember him for his kindness and compassion for others, his dedication as a Pediatrician and Radiologist, as a true gentleman, and most importantly, his love for his family. He was passionate about tennis, golf, cards, boating, coaching in the Khoury League and politics. He was a member at Biscayne Bay Yacht Club, Riviera Country Club, Blowing Rock Country Club and SORC Racing. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Shirley; his children with Evelyn Stewart, Mary Evelyn Guyton, Thomas Bryan Guyton, Jr. (Suzanne) and Elizabeth Guyton; his grandchildren, Stewart Bennett, Elizabeth Bennett, Gabriella Guyton and Thomas Bryan Guyton, III; and his great grandchild, William Goldner. Services are on Sunday, June 26th at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church: 5692 North Kendall Drive, Coral Gables, Florida 33156. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers or donations, Dr. Guyton would have asked you to vote in this upcoming election keeping in mind that our next president will appoint the Supreme Court Justices who will impact the next generation of Americans.
