Thomas John, 93, passed away on Oct. 3, 2015 in Miami. He graduated from the University of Florida and Columbia University in Economics. He had a business career in Miami as a Realtor and a Stock Broker and wrote a regular column in the Miami Herald about investments in bonds, his specialty. The major part of his career was devoted to travel. He developed a known agency, Follow Nature Trail and led tours with experts to Central and South America and Europe. Thomas was also an advocate for the mentally ill, helping to develop services in Florida up until the time he became ill with Alzheimer’s. He remained at home, cared for by devoted caregivers, friends and members of his family. Thomas was the oldest of four children of John and Anais Economou, who migrated from Greece. He is survived by his son Christopher, his former wife Graziella Rocha, his sisters Katina and Julia and several nieces and nephews. His parents and a brother William predeceased him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Assn. or St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Visitation 6 – 8 pm with Trisagion 7 pm Wednesday at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES. Service 10 am Thursday at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial Woodlawn Park North.
