In Loving Memory
THOMAS LEE EARNEST
January 18, 1920 – April 2, 2012
Born to Mary Esther (McCombs) and Norman Smith Earnest in Birmingham, Alabama. An earnest man of Scottish descent. A member of “The Greatest Generation”. A courageous soldier stationed in New Guinea and the South Pacific in WWII. Severely wounded and spent a year recuperating at the VA Hospital in Coral Gables (now the Biltmore Hotel). An extremely devoted and loving husband and father. A talented artisan and designer, brilliant craftsman, expert recreational angler and nature enthusiast. He loved the armchair study of science and the universe. The world has lost a kind and noble man devoting his life to the caring and concern of his family and all humanity. A man for all seasons who possessed the highest of integrity and character. His life’s compass was always set steadfastly and true as the Northern Star. The purest of heart. Predeceased by his wife and life’s partner Mary Margaret Earnest (Broughton) and daughter Paula Burniston. Survived by loving daughter Anita Broad (Morris), son Virgil Walker (Barbara), grandchildren Anthony Broad, Nayene Harvey, Anita Pewitt, Debbie, Laura, Karen, Barry, Shelley (Walker), great grandchildren Emma and Sara (Broad), Kyla, Samantha, Amanda and Brandy (Harvey), Kelsey, Kate, Dustin, Austin, Tony, Ryan, Hannah, Reagan, Natalie and Anna (Walker), great great grandsons Ethan and Leland (Walker).
