TERI JO DUMAS's Obituary
Teri Jo Dumas (64), passed away on March 23, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Originally from Missouri, she lived in Miami since the 1970’s. She was lively, generous and warm; a beautiful spirit inside and out. Teri cherished her lifelong friendships, and she appreciated the many friends who were by her side offering comfort, love and support throughout her life and during her final journey.
Teri was a passionate and devoted member of the Miami-Dade Legal Support Association (MDLSA), serving six terms as its president. She loved mentoring coworkers and took great pride in teaching others how to become passionate and knowledgeable legal assistants. She was totally committed to the charitable causes that MDLSA supported, including the Safespace Thrift Store and Foundation, and countless food and toy drives for our area’s less fortunate residents. She served and chaired several committees with the Florida Association of Legal Support Specialists (FALSS), and in 2002 she was presented their special "Lighting the Way for FALSS Future" award.
Teri was an active member and dedicated supporter of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network - Miami Affiliate, raising money and awareness for their mission. She never missed an opportunity to share her pancreatic cancer experience with new members, and share hope and encouragement with others while she was celebrating her survivorship. Her friends and coworkers always rallied around her, supporting her fundraising efforts with the Purple Stride Walks and Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza charity events.
Survivors include her sisters Cinda Haggerty and Lindie Dumas; nieces Brandie Baker, Wendie Baker, Kadie Reed, and Jodie Dumas; special cousin Cherylann Buckley; and her beloved cat, Munchkin. Teri will long be remembered and loved by family members and friends who were so fortunate to be loved by her.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on April 12th, 7pm, at Van Orsdel Chapel, 11220 N. Kendall Drive, Miami (305-279-6644). Please wear something purple in a show of support for her fight against pancreatic cancer.
