SUBRATO CHANDRA's Obituary
Subrato Chandra, Ph.D. passed away Friday, January 13, 2012. He emigrated from Kolkata, India to the United States in 1971 and shortly thereafter married his wife of forty years, Mitra Chandra.He moved to Florida in 1976 and worked as a research engineer for the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) for over thirty years. During his career he was recognized by his alma mater, West Virginia University, his employer, University of Central Florida, and the state of Florida as a distinguished and meritorious researcher in energy efficient housing. He also served as a board member for the American Lung Association of Central Florida for several years.
He retired from FSEC in 2010 and joined the Pacific Northwest Research Laboratory where he continued his illustrious research career.
He loved to travel and frequently visited his family in India along with taking vacations to international destinations. He also was an avid jogger and would rarely miss his three mile jog through Jay Blanchard Park in Orlando. He was an aficionado of classical music, especially Baroque.
He is survived by his father, S.D. Chandra; his wife, Mitra; his daughter, Seema; his son, Samir; his brother, Sugato; and his two sisters, Sucharita and Shrabani.
A memorial Service is scheduled for Sunday,January 29, at 2:00 PM at South Econ Community Park. In Lieu of flowers the family request donations to "UCF Foundation,Inc." There are three ways to contribute 1-Bring a check to the Memorial Service written out to "UCF Foundation, Inc" and in the memo line, write "in memory of Subrato Chandra. 2- Online, go to www.ucffoundation.org and make a one time donation to UCF Foundation, Inc. In the tribute line (bottom of the form) write in "in memory of Subrato Chandra" 3- Mail a check to UCF Foundation, Inc with the memo line as above. Mailing address is: UCF Foundation, Inc 12424 Research Parkway Suite 250 Orlando , FL 32826. We will notify all of you in three months as to how the donated funds will be used.
