STEPHEN JOHN KEATING's Obituary
Keating, Stephen J., 70, of Coral Gables, FL passed into eternal rest Sunday morning September
16, 2012 after a brief illness. Steve was born in Liverpool, England on November 14, 1941 to
Joseph and Veronica Keating. During his school years he played rubgy, cricket and became a low
handicap golfer. After finishing his Masters Degree at Merton College, Oxford University in
1964, Steve pursued advanced studies at the University of Maryland and obtained his law degree
at Boston College Law School. In 1970 Steve came to Miami-Dade County and practiced law for
37 years, 29 of which were spent at Miami-Dade County Attorney's Office. His love for music
was demonstrated by his singing with church choirs and with The Singing Miamians of Pinecrest barbershop chorus.
Steve was quietly generous to many, many people. He loved travel and languages, of which he
spoke several. He was an avid reader with a broad range of interests, and he loved sports.
During recent years his passion was walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail from Le
Puy-en-Velay, France to Santiago de Compostela, Espana, of which he completed over 700 miles.
Steve is survived and missed by his wife, Natalie, his brother, Dr. Philip and Mrs. Keating
(Connie), his sons, Gary (Cathy), Harold (Sharon), Darryl (Raquel) Hickey, his daughter
Harolyn Hickey-Dutt (Amitava), his grandchildren Harold, Arnav, Charles, Kathryn and Sean, his
nephews and nieces Joe, Suzanne, Dan, Nikki, Kate and their spouses, his 12 grand-nieces and
grand-nephews, and his uncles, aunts and cousins living in England. He will also be missed by
his many friends and colleagues.
A Requiem Mass will be held Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Church of The Little Flower,
2711 Indian Mound Trail, Coral Gables, FL. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to your favorite charity.
