Stanley Karling's Obituary
KARLING
Stanley Vernon born 1928 in Omaha, NE died Sept. 13, 2009. He moved to Miami in 1935, graduated Miami High class of 1947. He was a member of school bands, also forming his own 14 piece dance band and was a member of Kappa Mu Alpha. In 1947 he received his private pilot license. He later toured with Scott Jenkins and Jimmy White Big Bands before receiving a Band Scholarship to U of M where he was a member of Mark Mark’s and Dave Woods Bands also Phi Mu Alpha Jazz Quarter, Theta Chi Fraternity and Honorary Music Fraternity. He served as a U.S. Marine in Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart for combat wounds. After the war he held several jobs in Miami as well as owning his own diving supply. He was an avid fisherman winning many tournaments. He later attended GA. Tech receiving a Masters Degree. He worked 32 years for Metro-Dade County Planning Dept. retiring in 1993. He was a sax player with Barry Mann Band, Gold Coast Society Dance Band, John Branzer, Frank Hubble, Jack Mautino Big Bands, and other sax groups. He was a member of the VFW and Royal Order of Purple Heart. He is survived by sister Loretta Karling Au of Ocala, FL, neice Joan B. Wright of Ocala, nephew Daniel C. Wright and nephews wife Evelyn J. Wright of Ocala, grandniece Joan Orozco of Miami and longtime friend Judy Blumenthal of Miami. Burial will be in Omaha, NE.
