SOPHIE W MICHAEL's Obituary
Michael, Sophie, 87, was called to her eternal resting place on February 6, 2018. Born in Pontiac, MI to Greek immigrant parents, she lived the majority of her life in Miami where she was a devoted member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and serving in the Philoptochos Society. A florist by trade, she retired from Coastal Fuels as an executive secretary. Sophie loved sailing, traveling, painting and gardening. She helped found the Biscayne Bay Sailing Club, serving as its president for many years. With love and devotion, she adorned the St. Sophia Cathedral and Epitaphio year after year with beautiful flower arrangements for Easter holy week. She was predeceased by two loving husbands, Nick G. Thomas and Constantine J. Michael. She is survived by her sister Genie Williams, daughter Marie (Gary) Railing, son Dean (Grace) Thomas, daughter Nicole (John) Patten, grandchildren Chris (Leann) Railing, Valerie Gonzalez, Chris (Juliana) Sarria, Daniel Sarria, Nikolas Thomas, Kevin Thomas, Zakary Thomas and great grandchildren Gunner Gonzalez, Sawyer Gonzalez and Ariana Sarria. Viewing will be Friday 2/9/18 from 6-9pm with Trisagion Services at 7:30pm at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES CHAPEL; Funeral Services will be held Saturday 2/10/18 at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2401 SW 3 Ave, Miami, FL followed by a graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery North. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or St Sophia Philoptochos.
