SOPHIA GERASSIMIA DEPAOLA's Obituary
Sophia DePaola, age 35, is now resting in peace. She departed on March 12, 2020. Sophia was born on December 14, 1984. She was engaged in 2013 and married her agapi as she referred to him, Philip DePaola, in 2014. She welcomed her son Joseph into the world in 2017.
Sophia was a beautiful person. There was never one instance in her life where she was selfish. She loved experiencing new things with her loved ones and enjoyed many of life’s gifts. Anyone that knew her well had a special bond with her. She made sure to be present when needed, to share in joy and provide support in grief.
Sophia was in loving awe and so proud of her son, Joseph. Their relationship was remarkable. She fought for him everyday from the moment he was born and he for her. They celebrated each other’s accomplishments and were deeply connected.
Sophia was beyond grateful for her mother. Her mother never left her side for the past three years. Even in that time, Sophia was worried about her mother’s well being more than her own. She always insisted she get rest, take a break and eat properly. But she was so happy and relieved to have her by her side.
Sophia felt complete when she met Phil, the love of her life. You could tell she was the happiest she had ever been when they decided to embark on their journey together. They were so happy to be together, they loved sharing new experiences and they more than anything love Joseph. Phil was always hopeful, optimistic, determined and exhausted any and all options during her illness. They shared their happiest and darkest times and always cared deeply and worried about each other. Their relationship was exceptional.
Sophia and her sisters were always referred to as The Prevolis Girls. The sisters shared a bond until the very end that is indescribable. She to them, even well into her illness, was their support system. They spoke daily, celebrated life together with each milestone and helped each other through anything that life tossed at them. She always enjoyed sister time.
Sophia chose to dedicate her professional career to education. She loved children and they loved her. She had a dedication and patience that made her the perfect educator. She held a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Education.
Sophia is survived by her three year old son Joseph DePaola, her husband Philip DePaola, mother Anastasia Prevolis and sisters Evangelia (Carlos) and Emmanuela Prevolis.
