Patricia Pesavento
Thank you for your beautiful comments Larry. We too will miss this wonderful, enigmatic man. We spent many joy filled hours with Jean and Simeon on Norton Island, we celebrated holidays at their beautiful home in Boxford, and warm quiet vacations at their place on Big Pine Key in Florida. Everything Jean and Simeon did was touched with creativity and excellence, like the Christmas Shop with it's toy train running through all of the rooms and the man sleeping, with his fan driven breathing almost imperceptibly in one of the corners. They were incredible, creative teachers. They were mentors of excellence to our family, enriching our lives in more ways than we could ever recount. They were dear, dear friends who won't be forgotten and will always remain close to our hearts.
(From Patty) I remember once when Simeon was coming in from outside... He had figured out some problem with the door to the large shed that was ostensibly for cars but instead held a chaotic mixture of chairs, Christmas paraphernalia, and ancient rusty lawn care implements.
He said "Joanie. You'd be proud of me".
Without a second beat Jean said "Not in that shirt I wouldn't" (it was one of the patchwork Brooks Brothers button ups with more holes than actual shirt).
He turned to me with a big ear-to-ear grin and said "Patty, dear. Never marry a wit."
So many moments like that. Talking about where all of the human potential had been lost. Why music was the highest form of intellect. I had a 4 letter correspondence with Simeon when I was at Swarthmore that centered around, and assumed the character personas of three toed sloths. Drawing cartoons to his specifications. Talking about the right way to learn. We children thought that Simeon and Jean built a magic place wherever they lived. That was probably pretty accurate.
