Sidney Michael Williams' Obituary
Sidney Michael Williams, born on August 30, 1957 in Miami, Florida, was the third child of Bettye Carey Williams and Adam Gabriel Williams.
Sidney’s parents preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Aubrey Gerald Williams (d. September 17, 2022).
Sidney was popularly called “Cherokee” by many of his friends around Miami. He stood out in a crowd, instantly recognized because of his “unique” handsome looks, yet, he was very shy and modest- nearly to a fault.
Sidney was raised in a loving household where he was well-educated, primarily in Catholic private schools in Miami, as well as in Fresno, California where he graduated from San Joaquin High School. He was the star baseball pitcher.
He attended Langston University, Langston, Oklahoma for two years.
Sidney loved to discuss all matters related to sports. He was quite an “expert” on College and professional teams, and was always spot-on in predicting their standings, play-off odds, etc.
His family members have many stories about Sidney’s colorful escapades: he traveled from coast-to-coast and would often surprise his kinfolk by just “showing up” out of nowhere. Oh, the stories.
Over the last few years, Sidney lived with Rosalie Cary Sims, one of his first cousins, who provided him with the comforts of home- not just shelter and custodial support.
Sidney was not married and he had no children.
He is survived by his sister, Antonia Williams-Gary of Salisbury, Maryland, by his brother Haywood Williams and his wife Terika, of Goose Creek, SC., by Rosalie Carey Sims, his cousin and caregiver, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and good friends, too many to individually mention.
