SERGIO L. ARIAS's Obituary
Sergio Lorenzo Arias, went to be with our Lord on the morning of April 12, 2018. He was the beloved husband of 22 years of his wife Mayra and loving father to their daughters Yvi and Vera LeeSing; Sergio was predeceased by his wife Consuelo in 1992, and was father to their daughter Connie Novo and son Michael Arias. He is the beloved “abuelo Sergio” to his 8 living grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Sergio was a hardworking man who came to the United States with his wife Consuelo and daughter Connie and later having their son Michael. They lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. until 1951, when they moved to live together in Miami. Sergio worked as a painter both in New York, and the for Miami-Dade County until his retirement.
Sergio was a man of strong Christian faith, and loved sharing that faith with others. He started and became the first pastor of the Melrose Spanish Free Methodist Church in the late 1970’s, where he built a strong community of Hispanic Christians, reaching out to immigrants arriving to Miami from Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Central and South America.
When Sergio became a widow in 1992, he found comfort in visiting his elderly friends and others in their homes, always sharing his faith and love of God. He would visit other churches where friends attended, and a few years later, he met his present wife Mayra. Sergio and Mayra soon married, and raised two daughters Yvi and Vera LeeSing over their 22 years of marriage.
We are all so thankful for having had Sergio, our husband, father, abuelo, and friend, in our lives for as long as we did, and how blessed we all were for all the wonderful memories we made and shared together. Sergio was not only there for his family, but for so many others along the way. His love of God and bringing that love to others was one of his greatest passions, and he did that even in his final few months, to nurses and doctors that cared for him at their offices or in the hospital, and to the many visitors to his home.
A man of compassion, kindness, integrity, strength and love. He has left a positive and tremendous imprint in our lives and hearts that we will remember and cherish forever. A life well lived; a great soul.
He will be missed.
