Scott Jon Dunkin's Obituary
Dr. Scott Jon Dunkin ,69, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, compassionate and loving OB/GYN physician, passed away July 3, 2024 at home with his loving devoted husband and family by his side. He was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on March 11, 1955. He was known for his unwavering commitment to his family, friends, colleagues, patients, and his beloved chihuahua ChiChi. Throughout his illustrious career, he made an impact on every person he encountered.
Dr. Dunkin graduated from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in the state of Iowa on June 6, 1980. Following a residency in Miami at Nova Southeastern University, he went into practice in 1988. He also served as a clinical instructor for Medical students from numerous universities . Dr. Dunkin was part of the Pavilion for Women’s Health in partnership with his dear friend and colleague Dr. Eric Runyon. He truly valued every staff member at his office as family and loved them unconditionally. He enjoyed coming home every day discussing the day-to-day business in his office and how much joy and happiness it gave him to see the fruits of his labors after his many years of devotion in his field.
It was not uncommon to run into patients and the children he delivered all around Miami who would comment on their fond memories of his care and devotion.
Aside from his work and family, one of his true passions was gardening. He loved spending time in his garden with his husband tending to his plants. Even as his health declined, his garden still provided him with so much fulfillment and happiness. He always enjoyed discussing his gardening with anybody who was interested. He was able to name every single plant, orchid, and any other tropical plant in his yard.
Dr. Dunkin is survived by his husband of 24 1/2 years, Ronald “Lee”” Leitter; daughter, Natalie Sagarbarria, and her husband Juan and their two children whom Scott held near and dear to his heart Olivia and Emmie; his son Brandon Dunkin, his father Orville Dunkin from Pella, Iowa, his former wife and dear friend, Gloria Dunkin, and her husband, Tony Andrulonis. He is also survived by his loving niece Lauren Weil and her husband Dan and their family. He is also survived by many cousins and extended relatives.
He was preceeded in death by his loving mother Edwarda Dunkin and his beloved sister, Susan Lesica.
While Scott’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of his entire family, friends, patients, and other loved ones, they can find solace in knowing that he was comfortable at home and at peace at his time of passing. His memory will be cherished and the legacy of his compassionate care and genuine love for others will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 4 PM to 8 PM at Van Orsdel funeral home in Kendall.
