Sara Elizabeth Fox Newton's Obituary
SARA ELIZABETH FOX NEWTON (Betty)
December 18, 1920 – December 3, 2009
Betty was born in Augusta, Georgia. After high school she moved to Jacksonville, Florida, to pursue a career in the aviation industry. She was one of the first flight attendants to be hired by National Airlines. During her training she met a handsome young dispatcher, Charles J. Newton. They were married on January 21, 1944, and they moved to Miami a few years later. Betty loved boating and fishing. She was active in club work and raising her children. When her husband retired they moved to Lake Wales, Florida, where they built a home on Lake Walk in Water. In 1995 Betty learned to operate a personal computer and began a rewarding hobby researching her family’s genealogy. She returned to Miami in 2004 after her husband passed away. She is survived by her sister Faye Fox Brown of Salt Lake City, Utah, her children Elizabeth Shelley Newton Bivins (Arthur) of Miami and Charles J. Newton, Jr. of Lake Wales, 2 grandchildren, Arrin Newton Brunson (Travis) of Wellville, Utah, and Charles J. Newton III (Kathleen) of Chicago, and five great grandchildren. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
