Sara Jane Charlton's Obituary
In Loving Memory
Sara Jane Charlton
February 15, 1936 – August 21, 2022
Sara Jane Charlton, 86 went on to be with her heavenly father on Saturday, August 21, 2022.
Jane passed away peacefully in Miami, FL after a battle with dementia. Jane was born on
February 15, 1936, in Brewton, AL to her parents Verne Olive Holton and James Denver
Osmond. Jane loved her father who served in the Navy and is buried at Arlington, but
unfortunately passed away when she was 12. Jane is survived by her 4 sons, Bill, Keith (wife
Barbara), Kevin & David (wife Laura), her 5 grandchildren, Jackie, Taylor, Lauren, Caitlin & Dylan
and her 4 great grandchildren, Claire, Leila June, Landon & Kole.
Jane moved to Miami with her family in 1953 where she graduated from Coral Gables High
School in 1954. She went on to meet Bill Charlton, her eventual husband, who was attending
the University of Miami. Jane and Bill were married in 1957 and enjoyed 58 years of marriage
prior to Bill’s passing in 2015.
Jane worked at University Baptist Church as the Child Development Director and later in life at
Wayside Baptist Church as a receptionist. She was passionate about her work for the Lord and
well respected by the congregations. She was an accomplished artist who enjoyed making
porcelain dolls along with their clothing and won numerous awards in the industry. She also
enjoyed smocking, quilting and embroidering at an extremely high level. Jane and Bill
eventually opened Jane’s Arts & Crafts store, which was a tremendous success. After defeating
breast cancer with the help of South Miami Hospital, Jane made a quilt for the hospital and
staff that remains prominently displayed in the Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute to this
day.
Jane enjoyed having a large family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was
the glue that kept our family together. She loved her friends and family and filled her home
with warmth and kindness.
We will miss our mother deeply; however, we rest well knowing she is no longer suffering and
now in a far better place with her Lord and Savior.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Autism Speaks.
