Born in Habana, Cuba, on October 20, 1944, Santa Barbara immigrated to the United States in 1970 with her daughter and father. She made a lasting home in the Woodside community in Queens, New York, where she operated her own hairstyling business. She was known as Abuela Baby to her grandchildren, Adrianne Faya, Elise Faya, and Joseph Faya. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Carolina and Santino, who brought her immense joy.
