Samuel Alvin Richard's Obituary
RICHARD, Samuel Alvin, 90 a resident of Miami for 84 years, passed away Sat. March 6, 2010 at home
in Miami, Fl. He was born on Feb. 6, 1920 in Green Lane, Pa. to parents Frank S. Richard and Katie S. Richard. Predeceased by his parents, wife Margaret Hisey Richard, brothers’ Raymond and Robert and sister Effie Nicholson. Sam attended Miami Senior High School and graduated in 1938. He served in the US Navy from Sept. 1941 through Oct. 1945. He served as a Pharmacists' Mate, First Class on the USS Alcor, USS Hamul, USS Monticello and the USS Europa. He married Margaret Hisey on Dec. 24, 1943. He liked working with his hands with U.V. Hisey Flooring and as a finish carpenter until his retirement in 1982. Sam played the bugle in the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps in Miami, Fl. He was a member of the Pan American Orchid Society. He was actively involved in the Church all of his life. He was an adult leader with Boy Scout Troop 301 in Miami, Fl. His hobbies include fishing, golf, and woodworking, raising orchids, stained glass, cooking and baking. Survived by his son, Wayne B. Richard, of Orlando, Fl., daughter Janet Richard McGuire of Miami, Fl., and grandson Ensign Mark G. Richard, USN, daughter- in-law Lydia K. Richard and son-in-law Danny McGuire. He was Beloved by all. A Memorial Service will be held at Pinelands Presbyterian Church 10201 Bahia Drive, Miami, Fl. 33189 on Saturday March 13, 2010 at 2:00pm.
