RUTH ATKINSON HECK's Obituary
HECK, Ruth A. age 97, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2015. Ruth was born in Norfolk, VA. on October 10, 1917 to Douglas and Ruth Atkinson and moved to Miami, FL in 1925. She was married to her loving husband, James Heck, on November 5, 1939 at Shenandoah Presbyterian Church in Miami, FL. James passed away on June 18, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her Mother and Father and two devoted sisters and their husbands, Dorothy Lester (Andrew) and Mary Louise Hasencamp (Robb). She is survived by her four children, Douglas Heck (Vernadene), Scott Heck (Barbara), David Heck (Katherine) and Carolyn Callahan (John),five grandchildren, Jeff Heck (Bonnie), Sharilynn Dunn (Mark), Elisabeth Heck, Leslie Secor (Scott), and Douglas Meloche, five great grandchildren, CJ and Kelly Heck, Jesse and Alec Dunn and Deacon Secor. In addition, she cared deeply for each of her many nieces and nephews and their respective families. Ruth was a wonderful loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother (Nana) and Great-Grandmother. The most important thing in her life, after her family, was her Christian faith which she and Jimmy practiced purposefully all their lives, teaching and caring for people from the youngest to the oldest. Everyone who knew them at Shenandoah Presbyterian Church can testify to their profound influence for good. When Ruth and Jimmy moved to East Ridge Retirement Village in 1988 she and her sisters took over the Village Chapel and they continued to work diligently to care for others. Ruth will be missed by many people for whom she cared so deeply and who loved her deeply in return. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 12 at the East Ridge Retirement Village Chapel, 19301 SW 87th Avenue. Miami FL 33157
